Anna Castelli Ferrieri was born in Milan in 1920 into a family active in the cultural sphere. Her father Enzo Ferrieri was an intellectual, editor and founder of the magazine Convegno and had also created a circle frequented by Luigi Pirandello, Umberto Saba and Eugenio Montale. Stimulated by the avant-gardes of the Bauhaus, in 1938 she began studying architecture at the Milan Polytechnic where she learned the rationalistic approach to found her own studio in 1946. Among her works carried out we find the restoration and reconstruction of historic buildings such as the Chiostro del Bramante in Milan and Palazzo Benci in Florence. From 1966 she collaborated with Kartell, founded by her husband in 1949. From 1969 to 1971 she was president of ADI (Association for Industrial Design), member of INU (National Institute of Urban Planning) and founder of MSA (Movement of studies for Architecture). In 1990 she founded the ACF Officina design group, together with some former students. She died in Milan on 22 June 2006.
